What is a Local Technical Representative?
A Local Technical Representative (LTR) is a Kenya-based, PPB-licensed entity appointed by a foreign manufacturer to hold the product registration and act as the manufacturer's point of contact with the Pharmacy and Poisons Board. The LTR carries the local regulatory responsibilities the Board cannot assign to a company that has no presence in Kenya.
Can a foreign manufacturer register directly with the PPB?
No. A manufacturer based outside Kenya cannot hold a product registration directly with the PPB. It must appoint a locally licensed Local Technical Representative or Scientific Office to submit and hold the registration on its behalf.
What does an LTR do for me?
The LTR prepares and submits your dossier, holds the registration, receives PPB correspondence, handles renewals and variations, supports post-market and pharmacovigilance obligations, and represents you in inspections. Appointing an LTR replaces the cost and time of opening and staffing your own licensed entity in Kenya.
If I already have a licensed Kenyan entity, do I still need an LTR?
Not necessarily. If your entity already holds the right PPB licence for this product type, you may be able to register directly under it. Whether it qualifies depends on the licence category, so confirm the fit before you rely on it.
