Pharmaceutical unit conversions: FAQ
How do I convert percent w/v to mg/mL?
Multiply the percent figure by 10. So 1 percent w/v is 10 mg/mL, and 5 percent w/v is 50 mg/mL. To go the other way, divide the mg/mL value by 10. The Percent strength panel does both and also gives the total milligrams in a volume you enter.
What is 1 ppm in mg/L?
For a dilute aqueous solution with density about 1 g/mL, 1 ppm equals 1 mg/L, which is the same as 0.001 mg/mL. The assumption holds for water and very dilute solutions where 1 litre weighs about 1 kilogram.
How do I convert mg to mEq?
First convert mass to millimoles by dividing the mass in milligrams by the molar mass in g/mol. Then multiply the millimoles by the valence (the charge number) to get milliequivalents. For sodium, 1000 mg divided by 23 is about 43.5 mmol, and because sodium has a valence of 1 that is also 43.5 mEq.
